Little Background
SO...best way to start out anything I presume would be to introduce myself - My name is David and I live in Riverton Utah. Born and raised in Salt Lake City. I attended a few high schools but in the end graduating from Riverton High in 06'. Its now 2011 and I am finishing up general Ed at SLCC and will soon be moving up to the U of U. This blog is more or less all about a couple trucks I picked up along the way.
My first vehicle I picked up from some family friends for $500. It was a 1977 Ford F150 single cab short bed. I wish I still had pictures of this thing for the work and time that was dumped into it but have lost all of them (ex girlfriend). The truck had the 351-400M V8 and ran like a champ. Did a ton of body work (paint job was hideous) and spent many nights in the garage sanding everything down and ended up just painting it with primer. Folks found some sweet 35" BFGs on KSL and it was sitting pretty good. Being my first vehicle I had a book a few inches think of everything I wanted to do to it (don't we all): 9" Suspension lift, Roll Bar, Paint it black, 38" tires, etc.
One day I was working with my Dad as a temp at his work and as I walk out of the shop to grab lunch...I saw it. A 1979 Ford F150...Black...7" suspension...3" body lift...grizzley double double roll bar with five off-road lights = damn
Well, to find out, the 79' Ford was up for sale. With shear luck we were able to sell my 77' and pick up the 79'. Dad surprised me with it one afternoon and I just about fell over when I heard it coming down the street. Since that day I have removed the body lift (rode rough and truck was extremely top heavy) Later down the road I also picked up a 1978 Ford Bronco shown below with my 79'
We get to the auction and I am a bit excited - it was legit - they had the dude who speaks 1million words a min, numbers for those who are bidding, and a crowd of people around a line up of cars.
At the time I was looking between the 3-6K range tops because I had never had a car loan before and as the cars I had my eyes on came up - so did the bids. Kind of bummed out I sat watching the final vehicles pull up to be bid on and I said to myself "To heck with this, I want the full auction experience."
The next car to roll up was a 2004 Cavalier. Now this was not a plain looking old car. It had 18" chrome wheels, was bright orange, tribal flames up the sides of the car, full body kit, and to top it off...it had a spoiler. Lets just say that there is a certain stereotype that most "stereotype" as being obsessed with that type of car. And let s also say that there were "many" of this particular "stereotypical kind of minority" at the auction. I wanted to bid...just once...only once. I had no intention of actually getting a car at that point, I just wanted to raise my number. So has soon has the car pulled up and the auctioneer announced it - I shot my number in the air for a split second so the announcer to read it allowed.....then....crickets. Nobody else bid on the car - it hit me right away. I was now stuck with this flashy cavalier. Later I find out that they don't even get great gas mileage.
